Boy/girl divisions vs co-ed

Why does RASA split boys/girls divisions?

Prior to splitting the age divisions into Boys/Girls divisions, starting at U9 is when RASA started to see a drastic and very noticeable decline in registrations for female players. These female players were not moving on to play club soccer but stopping altogether. The main reason cited was they did not like playing with the boys due to many factors.

It is at this age that the development of boys and girls start to veer off on different paths, physically, emotionally, and socially. Boys become more aggressive in their style of play, the main reason cited.

The first year we implemented the Boys/Girls divisions, we retained 75% of the girls moving from the U8 into U9 Girls, and had older players who had stopped playing return to play on all girls teams.

We went from 126 female players, ages U9 to U14, in the 2010-2011 soccer year to 246 female players, ages U9 to U14, in the 2011-2012 soccer year.

can my daughter play with boys at u9 and older?

Yes. If you wish for your daughter to play on a boys team in the boys division, you can make that request.

The boys team you request must be in the proper age division based on your daughter's birth date. She can not play up and in the boys division.

If roster space within the boys division is limited and the roster spot is needed for a male player within that boys age division, the roster spot will go to the male player and your daughter will be placed in the girls division.
